Interview with the Managing Partner of M YACHTS, Mr. Philippe von Arnim

Official Dealer of X SHORE in Mallorca

The Balearic Islands are at the forefront of the green transition in the Mediterranean, with a growing awareness of the need to protect their unique marine ecosystems and move towards sustainable tourism models. As the pressure mounts to reduce emissions and noise pollution at sea, electric boating is emerging as a key pillar for decarbonizing the nautical sector.

In this context, we warmly welcome international companies that are choosing Mallorca as a strategic location for launching zero-emission charter activities and electric boat sales. One such company is M YACHTS, the official dealer of the Swedish brand X SHORE in Mallorca. With its cutting-edge design and 100% electric propulsion, X SHORE is a symbol of the future of navigation — silent, clean, and conscious.

We speak with the CEO of M YACHTS to learn more about their vision, their role in promoting electric boating in the Balearics, and what lies ahead for sustainable yachting in the region.

. What inspired M YACHTS to become the official dealer of X SHORE in Mallorca, and how do you see the potential of the Balearic market for electric boating?

The team of M Yachts each has a personal connection to the beautiful island of Mallorca – through yachting or family properties for decades. When M Yachts discussed the representation of X Shore for the DACH region, it was obvious that we wanted to serve our clients at their favourite boating destination – Mallorca and the Balearics. With the showroom at the newly opened Motorworld Mallorca and the moorings at the marina of El Molinar, M Yachts is well set up for the X Shore European test center, inviting all X Shore dealers and their clients to the island.

The potential we see on Mallorca is huge and is reflected through the overwhelming interest and fascination for the boats and the concept of electric boating – with no compromise on the experience or fun factor.

Boat owners, marinas and governmental institutions are now understanding how electric boating can positively impact Mallorca’s beautiful seas, and more and more electric boats can be seen in the water.

The Balearics are already positioning themselves as a laboratory for sustainable tourism. What role do you think electric boats can play in the transformation of the charter and leisure boating sectors?

The Balearics are already positioning themselves as a laboratory for sustainable tourism. What role do you think electric boats can play in the transformation of the charter and leisure boating sectors?

We believe that many electric boat brands – and especially X Shore, with the incredible lineup of the 6.5 and 8m platform – are ready for the waters. X Shore has invested more than $120 million and 10 years of time in the boats as we see and experience them today.

As M Yachts, we feel very comfortable offering our clients electric boats as a true alternative to the traditional combustion-driven boat.

The infrastructure with land power is available in every marina, and fast charging is developing quickly.

With ranges of 50 nautical miles for the X Shore 1 and 100 nautical miles on the Eelex and PRO versions, clients are understanding that an electric boat can serve perfectly as their day boat.

For charter companies, the now available battery range serves perfectly for the drive to the favourite “Cala” or a sunset leisure drive out to sea. Shuttle services for hotels & restaurants are applications which can now be served safely, silently and exhaust-free!

A better experience for the client and also for Mallorca in its transformation to a sustainable tourism destination.

What type of clients are you targeting with X SHORE vessels? Are you seeing growing interest from both local residents and international visitors?

Yes, we see a very diversified client mix.

There is a lot of local interest, with Mallorcans wanting to drive the change on the island and take it into their own hands.

This gives us at M Yachts great pleasure, as we are German in the end and have great respect for the local opinion, and were not always sure we would be received so well.

Then there is our German-speaking client base, which comes to enjoy boating on Mallorca and is looking for an alternative to their traditional combustion boating – a lot of it driven by their kids, who don’t understand why boating needs to be noisy and smelly.

As a third group, we see complete newcomers to boating. No license, no prior experience in boating, no mooring, and definitely no bad experiences with combustion engine failures.

With electric boating being almost maintenance-free, this group of clients just wants to get out on the water without any hassle and enjoy Mallorca from the sea.

Beyond sales, are you planning to develop sustainable charter services or experiential boating with electric vessels around Mallorca and the other islands?

Yes, we are seriously considering offering a charter service to clients on Mallorca.

This is driven by the fact that electric boats are not that visible yet, and we are mindful that not everybody feels 100% assured yet on how electric boating can work.

One way to resolve this is by taking our clients on sea trials, as the team of M Yachts is doing constantly.

The charter model also offers uncomplicated access to X Shore boats, and therefore we are working on a concept to be rolled out in 2025, latest 2026.

What challenges have you encountered so far in terms of infrastructure, regulation, or market awareness when introducing electric boats in Mallorca?

Quite honestly, no complications in regard to electric boats.

On the contrary, we were amazed how welcoming Mallorca has been to us and our X Shore boats.

I will say that, together with our marina, we have been waiting for 5 months for the electrification of the marina.

No electricity for electric boats proves to be a slight challenge, but this is resolved now, and we can easily charge overnight to enjoy everyday boat cruises.

What sets X SHORE apart from other electric boat brands on the market? What features or innovations are clients most excited about?

There are a number of other electric brands out there that offer the classic low-power, slow-speed solutions that work for many clients.

Then there are high-end solutions with comparable boat sizes and propulsion at €500,000+.

With X Shore, we feel strongly that our offer is very price competitive, starting with our X Shore 1 at €129,000.

Our cruising range always surprises clients, with up to 100 nautical miles on our 8m platform.

And there is the fun factor of 230 hp available, which gets you up to 30 kn in just above 6 seconds – an incredible feeling, where we have to be careful every time that nobody falls off the aft when we accelerate.

In regard to the production facilities, there is no competitor out there that can produce such volumes as X Shore, so it allows for a very quick delivery – in case M Yachts does not have the right stock boat available.

All in all, we feel that we have a strong offer for a growing market.

As a company with international experience, how do you view the importance of collaborating with local entities like ANBE to build an ecosystem for sustainable navigation in Spain?

As M Yachts, we believe strongly that partnerships and cooperation help long-term success.

As X Shore is not widely known yet, we are grateful for the warm welcome at ANBE and the introductions that have been made already.

We look forward to continuing the work and together developing the electric boating market in Mallorca and beyond.

Looking ahead, how do you envision the evolution of the electric boating market in the Balearics over the next 5–10 years? What needs to happen to accelerate adoption?

We are convinced that in the next few years we will see a major rise in the use of electric boats on Mallorca.

We may be 1 or 2 years away from large numbers, but with the interest shown by clients, potential sub-dealers and authorities, we will see a rise in numbers soon.

Let’s not fool ourselves – government initiatives really help the case, and if decisions around licensing, access to certain areas, preferences on moorings, and refitting of the coast guard and police are made, it will of course help to push the agenda.

In principle, we do not like prohibitions but rather prefer to convince clients of all the positive aspects that electric boating brings. In 5 years, I would like to see 5% of boats in use around Mallorca being electric. In 10 years, 20%.

And X Shore continuing to be at the forefront of leading this change.
